Having had what they came for, the three bodyguards seemed content to let Shayla be. But it behooved her to be sure.
"So we're square then, Miles? No more to anyone about the hollow cheeses?
"I don't know, quite." The tow-headed guardsman shrugged. You're the boss, Donal. It's your call."
Donal smirked. "It was good, Shayla. You did fine. We'll overlook the cheeses for now, but keep your nose clean. Our influence only goes so far; if you keep doing for people the way you have been, Eventually Lord Darron will order us to arrest you."
"And Benoit, Donal? You know what he's capable of. What if he sends his boys to rough me up?"
"What if he does? Not our problem."
"You couldn't be persuaded to keep me safe when he chooses to retaliate?"
"Benoit has ddep pockets and a long reach." Onas responded. "Quim is quim. Yours is good, but not good enough to put our necks in the hangman's noose for. We'll look the other way regarding the cheeses, but when Benoit's boys come for you, you're on your own."
